Interesting Upcoming Reality Shows

Posted by samishpatrol on November 20, 2007

So, I am not one to typically post too much about entertainment (with the occasional exception being a post in relation to my love of Country music). Though, two upcoming reality shows have piqued my interest.

The first is the celebrity edition of “The Apprentice” on NBC. I admit, I did watch this show for a season but that was it. Donald Trump disgusts me. Though, I think I am going to have to watch this new season of “The Apprentice”, which starts in January. Instead of competing for an opportunity to work for Donald, the celebrities will compete for charity.

The cast is mostly filled with a bunch of “D List” celebrities. Though, the ones I am most looking forward to watching are Trace Adkins, Piers Morgan, Gene Simmon, and the return of Omarosa. I am mainly looking forward to these ones because they are most likely to stand up to Donald and will make for great television. Other celebrities that will be on the show are Carol Alt, Stephen Baldwin, Nadia Comanici, Tiffany Fallon, Jennie Finch, Nely Galan, Marilu Henner, Lennox Lewis, Tito Ortiz, and Vincent Pastore.

The second is a show on CMT called “Gone Country”. This show takes already established entertainers from various genres of music and will have them compete for a chance to record and release a country song. This show will be hosted by and winner chosen by John Rich of country duo Big & Rich. What is so great about this show is that some of the singers you would never expect to make a country record. The celebrities on this show are Dee Snider (lead singer of Twisted Sister), Bobby Brown (R&B singer and former member of New Edition), Carnie Wilson (singer/songwriter and former member of Wilson Phillips), Diana DeGarmo (Singer, Broadway actor, and 2004 American Idol finalist), Julio Iglesias Jr (pop singer), Maureen McCormick (singer/actor, “The Brady Bunch,”), and Sisqo (R&B singer, former member of the group Dru Hill).

“Gone Country” is the continuation of several performers who have recently made success in country music or made country records. It has become “cool” for an established singer to make a hit in country music. Some of those singers/groups have been John Waite, Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Jamie Foxx, Jewel, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, and Justin Timberlake. Just this past Sunday on the American Music Awards Beyonce joined Sugarland on stage for the surprise performance of the evening. I am a big fan of cross-over recordings. I love it when singers cross genres to make music. I don’t get CMT but look forward to watching this when at my dads.

As I get ready to hit the “Publish” button, my favorite reality show of the season is just beginning. That would be the Semi-Finals results show for “Dancing with the Stars”. Because I could not wait until they announced who would be set home tonight I already looked it up online. I am happy to see that Marie Osmond has survived and will be in the Finals next week. I am hoping either Marie or Mel B (Scary Spice) wins.
