George W. Bush Statue

Posted by samishpatrol on January 22, 2008

Got this over e-mail a few days ago. Found it funny and able to make a valid point at the same time.

George W. Bush Statue

We are inviting you to be among the first donors to contribute to a new
outstanding tribute to our President. You will have the honor
of being on the committee to raise $5,000,000 for a monument of George W.
Bush.

We originally wanted to put him on Mt. Rushmore until we discovered there
was not enough room for two more faces.

We then decided to erect a statue of George W in the Washington, D.C. Hall
Of Fame, but were in a quandary as to where the statue should be placed.

It was not proper to place it beside the statue of George Washington, who
never told a lie, nor beside Richard Nixon, who never told the truth,
since George could never tell the difference.

We finally decided to place it beside Christopher Columbus. He didn’t
know where he was going, and when he got there he didn’t know where he
was. He returned not knowing where he had been, destroyed the well-being
of the majority of the population while he was there, and did it all on
someone else’s money.

So far we have collected $1.35.

Thank you.

In honor of MLK Jr. Day!

Posted by samishpatrol on January 22, 2008

The following video is “We Shall Be Free” by Garth Brooks. It is one of my favorite songs and is a great music video. I can’t think of a better song to honor Martin Luther King Jr. than this one.

Also, in honor of MLK Jr. day, I thought I would make a movie recommendation. The movie is “The Freedom Writers” starring Hillary Swank as Erin Gruwell. “The Freedom Writers” is the real life story about a new teacher at a racially divided High School in California in 1994 and how she is able to bring the class together. I saw it in theaters a year ago when it first came out and decided to watch it again this past Friday. I ended up using Erin’s story in my sermon yesterday. Watch the movie and be as moved by it as I was.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate
cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. – Martin Luther King Jr.
